Name?

Louise Moseley

Age?

27.

Job title?

Business Development Executive.

Employer?

Clifford Chance LLP.

What does your current job involve?

Competitor and client research, billings analysis, creating pitch documents for potential clients, internal communications, website updating, directory submissions, events planning, creating publications, PR and anything else that gets thrown my way!

What is the best bit about your job?

The variety - no two days are ever the same.

What is the worst bit about your job?

Dealing with demanding and occasionally difficult partners, and trying to influence decisions in such a huge firm.

What other jobs have you had since leaving university?

I started off at a local law firm as a marketing assistant and worked there for two years before moving to a London based firm. I spent two years in that role before being transferred to the Dubai office as a marketing coordinator for 18 months to provide marketing and business development support to the partners.

What course did you study at university?

BA (Hons) Social Policy and Administration.

How has your degree and experience helped you in your current role?

I had no idea what course I wanted to do or what career I wanted so I chose my degree on the basis that it would hold my interest for 3 years so, although the course didn't directly help me in my current role, the overall experience of university definitely has.

I was quite shy before going to university so being thrown into a situation where I was surrounded by strangers certainly forced me to be more confident in myself. It introduced me to all sorts of people and I learnt a lot about who I am and how I can make myself a better person.

Also, if it wasn't for my job in the student union job shop I would never have come across the advert for the job at the local law firm!

What are your top tips for UP for It members interested in a career similar to yours?

You have to be self motivated as there is lots of competition out there. Make the most of every opportunity that comes your way and say 'Yes' to any experience offered to you.

Any mistakes that I made when starting out was always down to me not asking enough questions and assuming that things had been done by other people. You don't have to be a genius - common sense and simply being willing to learn goes a long way.
