Planning your future - why now?

If you have only recently started secondary school, the thought of having to take GCSEs may seem like a long way off and the world of work probably seems like a life time away. Although you do have some time, it is really advisable to start thinking about the subjects you enjoy or are good at and what you might like to do later on. The earlier you start to think about this, the more likely it is that you will make the right decisions when the time comes.

In year 9 you will be asked to make your GCSE options. The subjects that you choose will have a large effect on what happens once you leave school. If you decide to continue with your studies you may need certain GCSEs to get a place on the course/s of your choice or if you decide to persue a career then you will also need relevant GCSESs. Maths, English and science are really important for virtually any course or career so it is very important to work hard at these subjects. There are some lucky people who may already know what they want to do, but that doesn't mean that you can't change your mind. Nothing is ever set in stone so don't be afraid at any time during your education or career if you decide you want to go in a different direction - it is never too late.
