What is a university?

After you have finished sixth form or college, you may want to go on to university. Universities can offer a range of different qualifications such as BTEC's or HND's but most students at university study for a degree in their chosen subject and are called undergraduate students.

After this degree some students chose to continue with their chosen subject and carry on studying a postgraduate qualification such as an MA or MSc (which are like advanced degrees, usually completed in a year). If you are really dedicated to you subject you could then go on to do a PhD or MPhil. These take a lot of dedication and research to finish but you could end up with your work and discoveries published!
