What if I want to go to work?If you have decided to join the world of work after school, make sure you go for job that offers training such as Apprenticeships, BTECs or NVQs. Not only will it help if the opportunity for promotion comes along, but if you change your mind and want to go for another career or back into education it will make it easier if you have gained qualifications. Remember though, your first pay packet at sixteen might sound like a lot of money, but would you be happy if you were still earning that in 10, 15 or 20 years time? Probably not, so make sure you give yourself the best start by getting as many qualifications as you can.
You can also learn at work and undertake one of 180 Apprenticeships and Entry to Employment schemes. For more information check out: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/14To19/OptionsAt16/DG_4001327
