If you love gadgets, are machine mad and like to come up with lots of crazy inventions or if you have ever looked at your MP3 player or a mobile phone and wondered how they work, then a career in technology could be for you. There are many areas that come under the heading of technology including inventions and gadgets that make our life easier, electronic communication that allows us to talk to the world, machines that travel on roads, through the sea or into outer space and fun stuff like laser light shows. All these and many more have to be designed, built, tested and produced.

Product design

These courses teach you how to use computer software to design a wide range of products from the latest gadgets to everyday household objects. You even get to make your designs, either by hand or using the latest technology. You can combine design courses with enterprise if you are interested in setting up your own business. You could work as a draughtsman or designer in a wide range of areas and products, such as the latest mobile phones and MP3 players to cars, yachts and even kettles. Maybe in the future you could design a household robot like Sonny in I,Robot or robots to assist in production lines, such as building cars. You could be developing electronics that go into mobile phones so they can do even more things how about a phone that enables you to record your favourite programmes when away from home? Try thinking up some ideas and who knows, one day you could be making them for real!
