Performing Arts

Performing ArtsAll the worlds a stage, and all the men and women merely players.
William Shakespeare from As you like it

If the stage is for you, whether you want to be in the spotlight, working in the wings, or behind the scenes, then there are many careers that you could get involved in.

There are three main areas in the world of the theatre that you can explore: performance, technical and production.

Those working in performance are the people on the stage, the actors, dancers and singers whose faces appear on the billboards and programmes.

Technical theatre staff include:

set designers, make-up artists, costume designers, lighting specialists and electricians. These are the highly skilled people whose work goes towards making the stars look good. The production staff work behind the scenes and look after the business end of theatre. They are the box office staff, the stage directors, the producers and promoters.

Music

Music is a huge industry, with a wide range of different jobs and careers. You may want to study music for the love of it, or pursue a career as a singer or composer, but the possibilities dont stop there. Its not just about being a pop star you could be a producer, an arranger or a sound engineer.

Besides musical talent, you need motivation, patience and self-discipline if you want to make a career in music. Bear in mind that the competition is fierce and in general the pay is lower than in many other industries. Many people often do more than one job to make ends meet  like performing and teaching.
