Look around you ? everything including the chair you are sitting on, your TV, the images on your TV, the clothes you wear and the packaging your food is in, even this book has been created and designed. In fact, unless something has been made by nature, it has been designed, created, made or illustrated by someone. Artists, designers, illustrators etc all need to have a talent for art. If you think you have a creative eye, there are lots of ways that you can earn a living.

Fashion design

If you are crazy about clothes and can spot the difference between an Armani and a Gucci at forty paces then maybe you should think about a career in fashion design? A fashion designer begins by drawing out their original design on paper and from this they make a pattern. They then use the pattern to cut out samples, which they make by combining colours and fabrics. When the sample is right, the new garment goes into production.

Computer Animation

Computer animators use their skills to create characters and animation for TV, film and computer games, like Toy Story, Tomb Raider or The Simpsons. You need to have really great computer skills and an active imagination to be prepared for this really exciting and highly competitive career.

Fine Art

Fine artists ask questions about the world and use what they discover to create their art. This could be by filming, taking photos, painting, sculpting or by combining mediums. Famous fine artists include Leonardo Da Vinci, Pablo Picasso and more recently Damien Hurst.

3D Design

Are you sitting comfortably? If you are not, maybe you need to design a chair especially for you? Everything that we use has been designed, from the bowl you eat your breakfast from, to your mobile phone. 3D design covers a wide range of subjects including: sculpture, jewellery, furniture, model making, interior design, industrial and product design and crafts. By working in this field you could be designing something that makes life easier, or simply looks good.
