I went to the Come Dine with UP for It workshop and had a great time.  Our tutor, Tony, made us feel welcome and showed us some basic skills.  We then went over health and safety rules and in our groups we set about cooking! We could choose whatever we wanted from any of the ingredients in the cupboards and fridges- there was a great choice.  Aiden and I decided to cook roast chicken with chips and vegetables.  We began by preparing the vegetables and then cooking the chicken; Aiden even put honey on the carrots!

Once it was all cooked we got to eat our meal.  For pudding we made apple fritters.  We made the batter from flour, milk and eggs and then poured it over the apples.  I ate all of what we cooked and thought it tasted good.  We cleared up afterwards as well - not like on the TV where chefs have it done for them!  After lunch we were then set our next task which was to make pancakes! We all watched Tony make his pancakes and were then able to do it for ourselves and we got to eat them.

When I got home, I knew we would be having pancakes as it was Shrove Tuesday. My mum and sister made some batter and so did I - the one which Tony had just shown us.  Mum said mine were good and that she would use my recipe next time. We had our pancakes with lemon, sugar and ice cream.  I have saved the recipe in a folder I keep with other recipes I have enjoyed cooking.

I enjoyed going into the kitchens at Highbury College as I want to be a chef once I leave school. It was a good experience to see where I could possibly go to do a catering course in a few years time.  I was surprised by the size of the kitchens as I did not really know what to expect when I got there; they were also well equipped and fun to work in.  I still would like to be a chef and will work hard in order to achieve this. I would definitely recommend people coming to this workshop as it is a fun way to learn about food, cooking and how you can work with others.
